The prototype instrument is part of the collection of the “Fondazione Querini Stampalia” in Venice. It belongs to a small group of musical instruments in this private art collection, which traces its origins to the Venetian Querini family. The instrument has been spared a complete overhaul and thus still retains its original neck and what is likely its original fingerboard. Some of the “movable” parts, such as the tailpiece and pegs, may also have been part of the instrument. Martin Kaiser moved from Füssen to Venice in 1635 at the age of 23 and remained faithful to the South German style in his work.
